DIY Bright and Cheerful Pompom Wreath

Pompom wreath and scallop felt garland

Wreaths are one of the most popular decorations to put up in the home over the festive period, and the best thing about them is that they can be crafted from pretty much anything; traditionalists will love gathering branches, berries and foliage to make their own nature-filled version, while anyone who loves something a bit more modern will be right at home constructing a colourful wreath from washi tape, ribbon, cardboard shapes and fabric. If you’re short on time but still want to get involved, we’ve got a great tutorial that will show you how to make a simple pompom wreath in an afternoon.

Yarn and Clover pompom maker

You Will Need

Yarn in various colours

A Clover pompom maker (you can use one of the more basic pompom makers, but these produce pompoms in seconds!)

Thick jewellery wire

Felt in different colours

Sharp scissors

Pliers

1. Start by making your pompoms; we made eighteen medium sized ones, which made a fairly good sized wreath.

2. Cut three equal lengths of wire, then twist them together and curl one end into a loop. The three lengths together will make sure the wreath keeps its shape

3. Thread your pompoms along the wire, and twist the other end of the wire through the loop to secure the wreath into a circle shape. Give your pompoms a little fluff and trim any long ends.

4. To make the felt bow, cut out two felt rectangles – one slightly smaller than the other – and place them on top of one another. Pinch in the middle, then wrap a length of yarn around to secure them into a bow shape, making sure you have two long ends. Tie around the centre of your wreath, then hang on the front door to give your visitors a colourful Christmas greeting!
