Five Great Save-the-Date Craft Ideas

30 April 2015  |  Nicola

Here at StickyTiger, we love a good wedding, and we think it’s the perfect time to get crafty; there’s nothing better than adding a few personal touches with some homemade or upcycled projects – and it doesn’t have to be anything hugely difficult, either. Starting with today, we’re going to be running a mini-series here on the blog with ideas for everything from DIY table decorations to customised clothes and homemade wedding favours. We’re kicking things off right at the very start – with a roundup of the very best (and most creative!) save-the-date ideas we found on the web.

Origami Save the Date Cards

From simple paper invitations to full-blown, brightly coloured floral wreaths and garlands, origami is a hugely versatile craft. We found some great tutorials for origami save-the-date cards; over at Martha Stewart, we found instructions on how to make a great miniature heart envelope, and Brides Magazine had a really nice step-by-step on making a card that folds down into a flower.

Save the Date Confetti Shooter

Our award for most inventive save-the-date idea goes to Free Wedding Projects, who have published a really detailed tutorial on how to turn a traditional confetti shooter into a fabulous save-the-date invitation. Love it!

Washi Tape Save the Date card designs

We couldn’t do a wedding-related roundup and not include washi-tape – after all, it is one of the most versatile pieces of craft equipment around! The tutorial on making these amazing ‘perfect match’ save-the-date cards is over at the Something Turquoise blog, and the modern washi tape card is from Oh So Beautiful Paper – they also have a variety of designs if you’re looking for inspiration for colours and shapes.

Wooden Save the Date Invitations

Magnets are always popular for save-the-date invitations – after all, who’s going to forget something that they see every time they open the fridge door? We loved these wooden disc magnets that we found over at Pixels and Wood, featuring a personalise message printed onto a small wooden disc. So simple, but perfect for any rustic-themed wedding!

Imaginative Save the Date card that ties a knot

Our last favourite was a simple card with a fun twist – Smitten on Paper have come up with a tutorial showing you how to make a card that literally ‘ties the knot’ as you open it. Such a clever idea!
