Distress Crackle Paint does what is says on the jar – paint with it and once it dries it produces a crackled effect – like dried or cracked earth. Simple.
They’re great for creating many different looks – grunge, vintage distressed or shabby chic and their colours complement the existing Ranger distress palette.
Tips for the best way to use them:
- Before you start: Shake the jar first (with the lid on, of course) to mix up the contents.
- Get the surface right: Add the Distress Crackle Paint to a surface that has some key – a little bit rough so it has something to hold onto, like paper, chipboard or primed canvass. If you’re using unfinished wood or natural canvas, it is best to prime it first (acrylic paint is good).
- Apply a thick coat: The thicker the coat the larger the cracks. Thin coats don't work well as there's not enough paint to crack.
- Drying: To get the best performance from the paint, just let it dry naturally. If you’re in a hurry, wait until the first cracks start to appear then (and only then) use your heat tool.
- Added effects #1: Once the paint crackles, you could highlight the cracks using Distress Ink Stamp Pads and the Inkssentials Ink Blending Tool.
- Added effects #2: Images can be stamped on the crackled surface with Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers as well as Archival Ink Stamp Pads. Experiment with rub-ons for unique and stunning effects.
