Covid 19

23 March 2020  |  Nicola

Many customers are surprised to find out that StickyTiger is mainly a one-woman show (and some lovely people who take phone messages when I'm not around). It means I do pretty much everything, including packing orders and post office runs. I share a workspace with my husband, who works for a different company.

Unless you've been living in a silent retreat in the desert, like Jarod Leto, you'll know that Covid-19 - the disease caused by the novel coronavirus - has become an issue for us all. I'm sure you'll agree that what matters most at this time, is keeping ourselves, our loved ones and our community safe.

First and foremost, the health of StickyTiger's customers will take priority in any decisions I make. This is no time for opportunism.

Here's StickyTiger's response to those questions. Of course, I'll update these if anything changes.

Stay safe

1. Are there going to be any changes at StickyTiger as a result of the coronavirus?

2. Can I catch the virus from parcels?

3. Will there be a delay in deliveries?

4. What else can I do?

Are there going to be any changes at StickyTiger as a result of the coronavirus?

I practice good hygiene and wash my hands before and after packing, and before and after doing a post office run. I'm practicing social distancing as much as possible.

To minimise the amount of time I spend around other people, I'm reducing the number of days per week that I despatch orders to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Otherwise, it'll be business as usual unless my husband or I show any Covid-19 symptoms, or have to fully self isolate. If that happens, I'll update the website and if there are any pending customer orders, I'll offer the option of a full refund, or to wait it's safe for me to despatch orders.

Can I catch the virus from parcels?

I am not an expert. And it's vital we listen to those who are.

Both Public Health England and the World Health Organisation say that the chances of catching the virus from parcels is very unlikely. However, the experts are learning about the virus all of the time. I'll update this answer as new information comes to light but please always check to reassure yourself.

According to the World Health Organisation, it's not certain how long the virus survives on surfaces but say that is is likely that is may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days, depending on the conditions such as type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment.

If you think a surface may be infected, clean it with simple disinfectant to kill the virus. Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.

Will there be a delay in deliveries?

Very possibly.

There may be a delay in despatching your order depending on when you place your order. As of now, I'll be despatching orders on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays only. So, if you order on Monday evening, the order will be despatched on Wednesday afternoon.

Most items are sent through Royal Mail. The latest information is that there may be delays. As more workers become sick and have to self isolate, there are fewer people to sort and deliver mail. This is all at a time when people are understandably buying online because they're staying indoors. Please be patient. They are putting themselves at risk to help us stay comfortable, and to me they are heroes.

Read the latest on any Royal Mail delays.

What else can I do?

OK, so no-one has asked this. But please do follow the official advice at https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus and at https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019

Be kind to each other.

Understand that most people are doing their very best in the most extraordinary of circumstances - things won't always go smoothly.

Remember to be extra thankful to our nation's key workers - NHS staff, delivery people, shop workers, teachers and many many more.
